A Guitar Instruction Intensive in Mexico

A week long Guitar Vacation Retreat in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, includes two hours daily (for 5 days) of customized private instruction in classical and fingerstyle guitar technique and music theory for guitarists. We introduce you to our style of playing as well as to our way of thinking about music. (The idea of thinking about music at all is a new concept for many guitar players.) We also include you in our music related activities outside of class, listening to local musicians and taking in the sights and sounds of San Miguel de Allende, a picturesque and historic colonial city founded in 1546.

We, Frances and Jack, are a professional guitar duo who perform together regularly in San Miguel de Allende. (See the About Us button at the left.) In the several years that we have been hosting Guitar Vacation Retreats, we have worked with dozens of students, and every Guitar Vacation Retreat has been a unique musical adventure!

In our Guitar Vacation Retreats program, we teach the tools of the trade as we practice it. Guitarists who want to play the way we do will get the most from studying with us! (A video of us playing live on a typical Friday night is posted below. Watch it now and see if you like what we do.) Even if you don't want to play exactly the way we do, you may decide that you might benefit from our perspective. We don't necessarily want you to play exactly the way we do! We would prefer to think that we may assist you in opening up your own unique creative process.

As working musicians we're busy with creating and performing our own music — so we are accepting only one or two students a month. You can check for our available schedule by sending the form in the blue box at the top right corner of this page.

The historic colonial city (pop. 140,000) of San Miguel de Allende is located in the central highlands of Mexico, a day's drive from the Texas border, and 3 hours north of Mexico City. San Miguel is an international artists' colony, with two art schools, many galleries, and visitors from throughout the world. It also has a thriving live music scene. Visitors are attracted by San Miguel's mild climate year-round, its proximity to an international airport, and its colonial architecture, colorful history, and authentic Mexican village charm.
